If you’re a savvy senior manager or executive–or any career-minded individual, for that matter–you know you need a strong set of tools to manage your career productively. Even more, if you’re contemplating a search for a new (potentially better) job, you realize it’s wise to tap into as many resources as possible.
Because I’m always on the lookout for resources my clients can use to enhance their career management, I wanted to share with you an excellent one that I’m well familiar with: It’s called BlueSteps.
In a minute or two, I’ll go into a few of the benefits BlueSteps offers and how you can take advantage of those. However, first, I want to take a moment to remind you of an important point.
No resource will speed up or catapult your job search to a successful conclusion if you select it and then just let it lie there, doing nothing to implement and maintain it. After all, this is your job search we’re talking about! If you’re not willing to put in the necessary effort, how can you expect positive results?
Having said that, I should add that BlueSteps offers multiple benefits, so it’s really a good deal.
BlueSteps offers a lifetime membership (one-time investment), as well as premium services that are included in the first six months of the basic membership. I won’t go into exhaustive detail because you can find a lot of information on the BlueSteps website, but here’s a taste of what you can get by making BlueSteps part of your overall career management and job search tool set:
Remember that I said you need to put something into it in order to get something back out of it? There’s a reasonable investment for the lifetime membership, and you might start by checking that out to see how it goes for you. If the premium level makes sense to you after you’ve experienced the first six months of it, then you can jump in all the way.
And remember, too, that you’ll stand to gain more if you work your participation into an overall career management/job search plan. Expecting miracles from a standalone, hit-or-miss activity won’t deliver the competitive advantage you need and almost certainly won’t produce the career success you’re ultimately aiming for.
P.S. In the interests of full disclosure, I want to mention that the main reason I’m so familiar with BlueSteps is that I provide complimentary resume reviews and occasional writing services to their members.
